Structured art classes:
• 2-Dimensional Art (Drawing) – Focused
on the basics of art — shape, positive/negative form, color,
light/shadow and shading, perspective, proportion — explored
through a variety of drawing mediums.
• 3-Dimensional
Art/Mixed Media – Introduces a wide variety of arts
and crafts media. Activities have included: wire sculpture,
plaster casting, papier mache masks, fresco painting, paper
making, hand-made books… the possibilities are endless!
• Ceramics – Emerson Umbrella boasts
a complete pottery studio, and all children have the opportunity
to try both hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques and
the creative freedom and professional guidance to make anything
from sculptural objects to traditional vessels. They glaze their
work and it is fired at the end of the week. Ceramics are available
for pick-up at the Umbrella the following week, usually on Wednesday. |
| The afternoon consists of two longer sessions when
children have the opportunity to choose what they want to do.
Activities offered are drawing/cartooning/illustration, ceramics,
mixed media, woodworking, and occasional other special projects.
These sessions give children the chance to concentrate on a medium
they are particularly interested in, and to design more ambitious
individual projects that may require more time or successive days
to complete. |
