| The Emerson Umbrella Center for the
Arts is pleased to announce that the Musketaquid Arts and Environment
Program has received a grant of $7,500 from the National Endowment
for the Arts, to support the annual Musketaquid Earth Day Celebration
which will be held on May 3, 2008. The grant is part of $19,189,000
to be distributed in this round of FY 2008 funding to nonprofit
national, regional, state, and local organizations across the country
through the NEA's Access to Artistic Excellence category.
The NEA is a public agency dedicated to supporting excellence in
the arts -- both new and established -- bringing the arts to all
Americans, and providing leadership in arts education. This grant
was awarded in the “Presenting” category, and the NEA web site notes
that Musketaquid Earth Day is “An annual tradition in the city of
Concord since 1990; the project will include the River Ceremony,
Earth Day Parade, and the Arts and Environment Festival.”
The Musketaquid Arts and Environment Program was founded in 1990,
and became a program of the Emerson Umbrella Center for the Arts
in 2002. Musketaquid’s mission is to link discovery of art with
passion for nature; to that end Musketaquid organizes its annual
Earth Day celebration, as well as Summer and Winter Solstice events,
the annual Earth Month Exhibit, and other programs throughout the
year. The NEA grant will support the Puppet/Parade and Earth Float
workshops in March and April, which are focused on creating elements
of the River Ceremony and Earth Day Parade. These workshops are
offered to the public at no charge. For more information, visit
the Emerson Umbrella web site at www.emersonumbrella.org, or contact
the Musketaquid Coordinator at 978-371-0820, or email musketaquid@emersonumbrella.org.
